The Hyundai Motor group will be asking owner of some 2017 Hyundai Ioniq and 2017 Kia Niro hybrids, to return their vehicles to their dealers to inspect and, if necessary, replace the hydraulic clutch actuator (HCA).

The subject vehicles may have been manufactured with a hydraulic clutch actuator with burs on the inner actuator housing. Over time, the burrs could damage the seal, allowing oil to accumulate in the phase cap area and cause an electrical short. This short will illuminate the HEV warning light and, in extreme cases, could result in an electrical fire.

Dealers will inspect the HCA phase caps for oil leaks and contamination, and will replace the HCA assembly as necessary. If there is no contamination, new phase caps will be installed with additional sealant.
