Unfixed Recalls Affect The Safety Of Everyone
A 2011 Carfax study shows that there are over four million used vehicles for sale with safety recalls that have not been repaired. While automobile manufacturers are required by law to alert vehicle owners and dealerships about the recalls, many owners don’t receive the notice and do not look in the right place for updates. Some recalls can go unfixed for years, and can be passed down from owner to owner. As a used car buyer there is no harm in purchasing a vehicle with an outstanding recall as long as you are aware and take it in to get if fixed by the manufacturer, free of charge. The problem with unfixed recalls on rental vehicles is just another reminder that it is in the interest of everyone to not ignore recalls. Consumer correspondent Susan Koeppen reports on the dangers of buying a used car that has been recalled. Continue reading

GM Vehicles Get Added Side Crash Protection
General Motors is increasing it’s already five star rating on its Acadia, Traverse and Enclave crossover vehicles, by introducing one of the first front center air bag systems. This airbag will deploy from the right side of the drivers seat, and act as an energy absorbing cushion between the driver and front passenger during side impacts and in rollover situations. The front center airbag will be standard on all 2013 Acadia and 2013 Traverse vehicles with power seats and on all 2013 Enclaves. Continue reading

Automobile Back Up Cameras And Convex Mirrors
A recent proposal made by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) would have mandatory back up cameras on all vehicles as early as 2015. While the plan is receiving support from insurance industries, traffic analysts and car manufacturers, some feel that the use of cameras is an expensive solution that could be solved simply by installing convex side mirrors.

Ice And Snow, Remove It Before You Go
A New Jersey law that took effect this October could cost motorists if they do not clean the ice and snow off all exposed surfaces of their vehicle. Many states have previously fined drivers for flying snow from vehicles causing damage or injury, but the new preventative law goes even further. Drivers are required to clear snow from all surfaces: windows, hood, trunk, and roof, before they start driving. While the offense may cost the driver $25-$75 there will be no traffic violation points incurred. Continue reading
