Auto Manufacturers Feeling Effects Of Japan Earthquake and Tsunami

Japanese auto industryThe devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan last week has forced Japanese automakers to suspend production of automobiles and parts until factories can be repaired. Rolling blackouts, damaged electric power grids and infrastructure, loss of workers and a potential nuclear disaster could prevent factories from operating at full production for an extended period of time. Shortages have been minimal so far, but according to reports, every major automaker will be affected by the disaster by late April. Director of Automotive Forecast, Michael Robinet said, “Even if factories do start full production again, it could take seven weeks, with overtime, to make up for one week of lost production.” Continue reading

What Is The Lemon Law

lemon laws by stateThe definition of what constitutes a vehicle as a “lemon” is: any new vehicle that has repeated, substantial problems relating to the safety, value, or use of the vehicle that isn’t fixed within a reasonable number of attempts, or that has had a certain number of days out of service. A used vehicle, if it was purchased or leased with a remaining portion of the new car warranty, may also qualify under the lemon laws. The meaning of “substantial problem,” “reasonable number of attempts,” and “certain number of days” is defined under your states lemon laws. Lemon Laws To Protect Consumers Rights

Lemon Laws Protecting Consumer RightsThe Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, also known as the Federal Lemon Laws, was first enacted by Congress in 1975. Consumers are protected by the Federal Lemon Law which applies to automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, RVs, boats, and all other consumer products. The Act allows two to four repairs for the same problem, or six to eight repairs to the entire product during its warranty period. The federal lemon law also provides that the warranter may be obligated to pay the prevailing party’s attorney fees in a successful lemon law suit. Continue reading
