Chevy Volt Battery Fire Prompts NHTSA Investigation

General Motors is defending the safety of their Chevrolet Volt hybrid vehicle after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) experienced a battery fire two weeks after performing crash testing on a vehicle. GM has pointed out that the problem developed only under extreme testing condition and reminds customers that the company dispatches a team within 48 hours to drain the batteries charge after being alerted of a Chevy volt accident.. There have been no real life scenario crashes that resulted in the same problem, but the NHTSA wants to continue monitoring the Chevy Volt and other electric and electric hybrid vehicles for further study. GM is offering a loaner vehicle and/or a vehicle buy back to customers who request it, but for now, drivers seem to be confident in the safety of their vehicles..
